State Senate promotes transparency in legislative proceedings through interactive website and public television access
Bills began flowing through committees this week as state senators start a thorough examination of the issues before the General Assembly in 2019. As proposals start moving through the legislative process, citizens will find the General Assembly’s legislative website a very valuable tool to keep up with the latest information. This includes easy live access to legislative proceedings via video streaming at www.capitol.tn.gov.
In addition to live streaming, the website houses archived video of legislative meetings which is searchable by bill number. The website includes bill status, amendments, summaries, and financial information, as well as legislation listed by subject matter and other pertinent facts. All votes taken in the Senate are recorded and listed on the website to make the process more transparent.
Citizens can also view the General Assembly’s proceedings live on their local PBS TV channel. This is broadcast through WKOP Knoxville, WTCI Chattanooga, WKNO Memphis, WLJT Lexington/Jackson, WCTE Cookeville and WLJT Lexington/Jackson. Viewers can check the stations’ schedules for more information.
